GreenState Credit Union Wins Iowa Finance Authority’s Homeownership Innovation Competition

North Liberty, Iowa — GreenState Credit Union recently won the top prize of the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) 2023 Homeownership Incubator Pitch Competition for an innovative approach to helping BIPOC Iowans attain their dream of homeownership.

Ryan Doehrmann, Chief Mortgage Officer, said: “Since 2021, GreenState Credit Union has been working hard to help close our state’s racial homeownership gap and help more Iowans overcome barriers to owning their home. While we still have a long way to go, I am proud of our progress so far and our organization is honored to receive this prestigious recognition of our efforts to build a better state for every Iowan.”

GreenState Credit Union has received this recognition for its efforts to help close Iowa’s racial homeownership gap, which is one of the largest such gaps in the United States, according to a 2019 report by University of Iowa professor Colin Gordon.[1] This work includes targeted mortgage lending with the possibility of closing cost or down payment assistance for qualifying members, known as the H.O.M.E Loan and Grant program.

GreenState’s pitch team included Chief Mortgage Officer Ryan Doehrmann, VP/Bilingual Mortgage Loan Officer Melissa Figueroa Rivera, and VP/Partnership Development Mark Nolte. GreenState took the top prize after being a finalist for the award in 2022.
