DES MOINES, IA, November 15, 2021 – Oakridge Neighborhood is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from GreenState Credit Union.
The grant is designated for Oakridge Neighborhood's Family and Workforce Programs, which move families to sustained self-sufficiency and self-reliance. The grant will help provide education for residents and clients related to alternative financing options, pathways to homeownership, asset building and financial education.
For over 50 years, Oakridge Neighborhood has created opportunities for thousands of children, adults and families to succeed and become financially independent. It provides a safe neighborhood of supportive housing plus essential programs and services. It is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Des Moines, with over 72 percent immigrants and refugees from over 21 countries that speak over 22 languages. Of the nearly 1,000 residents who reside on the Oakridge campus, 52 percent are children under the age of 18. Ninety-nine percent of Oakridge Neighborhood residents are low-income.
