Bill Pay at GreenState Credit Union

Bill Pay Summary

Bill Pay at GreenState Credit Union lets you schedule payment delivery from your checking account for a date you choose. Bill Pay is a complimentary service that allows you to pay most bills directly from your GreenState checking account. You can make payments to companies or send checks to individuals within the United States. Some companies take 3–5 business days to apply payments after delivery-by date. Scheduling Bill Pay payments several business days before the due date reduces late‑fee risk.

What to Know Before Getting Started

Payments are sent to arrive on or before the date you specify (Delivery Date). However, money is withdrawn from your account (Process Date) before the delivery date. The company or person you pay may need additional time to post the payment, so scheduling payments ahead of the due date reduces the risk of late fees. Applying payment to your account is entirely managed by the payee.

Bill Pay Timing Explained

You select a deliver-by date when scheduling a payment. Bill Pay ensures the payment arrives on or before this date. After delivery, the payee may need 3–5 business days to apply the payment. For best results, schedule your payment several business days before the due date to minimize the chance of late fees.

Important Reminders

  • Bill Pay payments can only be made from GreenState checking accounts.
  • Ensure you have sufficient funds available before the process date.
  • Electronic payments: Funds are typically withdrawn 1–2 business days before the deliver‑by date.

Note: Scheduling rule that prevents late fees

Many payees require 3–5 business days after delivery to apply the payment. Schedule payment for several business days before the due date to avoid late fees.

Payments are sent to arrive on or before the deliver-by date, and funds are withdrawn before that date to help ensure timely delivery. After delivery, the recipient may require 3–5 business days to apply the payment. If your due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is processed on the next business day. For new payees, schedule payments earlier than the due date to allow for set-up and processing time.

Note: If your payee says the payment is late

  • Check whether the payment was delivered by the deliver-by date shown in Bill Pay.
  • If delivered, ask the payee when they post payments after receipt, as posting time is controlled by the payee.

If a company or person cannot accept electronic payments, Bill Pay will mail a check on your behalf. Checks are mailed early enough to arrive by your selected date, and funds are withdrawn when the check is sent. After receiving a check, the recipient may still need several business days to apply the payment. Checks are valid for 90 days from the date they are sent.

Bill Pay FAQ

The timing depends on how the payment is sent:

  • Check payments: Funds are withdrawn when the check is sent, not when the payee deposits or cashes it. Ensure funds are available 4–5 business days before your scheduled payment date.
  • Electronic payments: Funds are withdrawn one business day before the scheduled delivery date.
  • Single-use prepaid card payments: Funds are withdrawn on the delivery date, or one business day before if the delivery date is not a business day.

Note: Federal holidays do not count as business days.

Stopping a payment depends on whether processing has started and how the payment was sent:

  • If the payment has not started processing: Cancel the payment directly in Bill Pay.
  • Check payments: A stop payment can be requested throughout the process, until the check is presented for payment.
  • Electronic payments: Once processing begins, electronic payments cannot be stopped. If the payment has already been sent, contact the payee to request a refund.

If you do not see a stop option for a Bill Pay check inside Bill Pay, contact Bill Pay Support at (866) 841‑1316.

Funds are withdrawn electronically so the check can be printed and mailed on your behalf. This ensures that funds are available before the check is sent.

Bill Pay chooses the delivery method based on how the payee is set up. If the payee is not part of the electronic network, a paper check is mailed using the U.S. Postal Service. If the payee is part of the electronic network (most large companies are), the payment is sent electronically.

The delivery method can vary by payee and may change over time based on how the payee is set up.

Some payees receive payments using a secure, one-time card number. This method provides faster delivery for many payments, increases security since your bank account information is not shared, and creates a simpler experience for you and the payee. If a payee accepts this method, Bill Pay may use it automatically.

If the payment was delivered, contact the payee to confirm their posting timeframe.
