Loan & Security Products

Mechanical Breakdown Protection is a vehicle service contract that will help pay for mechanical repairs beyond standard auto insurance to keep you and your vehicle on the road.

Paybreak functions as payment protection in the event of certain, sometimes very serious, life events. Under this program, your loan balance may be canceled or your monthly loan payments canceled without penalty or added interest, helping to ensure you, your family, and your credit rating are protected during unexpected events.

In the event a vehicle is totaled or stolen, the insurance company settlement can be less than the outstanding loan balance at the time of loss. This may create a deficiency balance, or a "GAP", resulting in serious financial hardship.  GAP aims to cover the loan balance after the primary insurance company payment is applied.

Depreciation Protection covers vehicle depreciation. It is a debt cancellation product that, in the event of a total loss, provides a benefit equal to the difference between the vehicle's NADA Retail value at the time of coverage enrollment and the loan balance at the time of the total loss.

VPP protects consumers from normal driving incidents and out-of-pocket expenses that are not typically covered by insurance policies, manufacturer's warranties, or extended warranties.  Coverage may include windshield repair (restrictions may apply), paintless dent repair, key or remote replacement, roadside assistance, and more.

General Loan Questions

Almost all of GreenState Credit Union loans are daily, simple interest loans, with the exception of first mortgages and credit cards.  On daily simple interest loans, interest accrues each day and is applied first to interest owed, with the remaining portion of the payment reducing the principal balance.  For mortgages and credit cards, please refer to your loan documentation for interest accrual details.

GreenState reports accurate account standings and history to the credit bureaus. Reporting for our mortgage and consumer loans occurs on the first day of each month, and credit card reporting occurs at the statement end date.

Higher credit scores generally indicate lower risk to lenders and can lead to better approval odds, lower loan interest rates, and higher credit card limits.

For specific loan consolidation questions, please visit a branch to speak with a lender or call our virtual branch at (800) 475-6728.

Credit card interest works differently on purchases versus cash advances. Most credit cards offer a grace period on regular purchases, meaning you can avoid interest entirely if you pay your full statement balance by the due date. If you don’t pay in full, interest begins accruing after the statement closes and continues daily until the balance is paid. Cash advances, however, do not offer a grace period. Interest starts immediately on the day the cash is withdrawn, typically at a higher APR than regular purchases, and GreenState charges a cash‑advance fee of 4% (or $10, whichever is more) of the transaction amount. Because of the immediate interest, higher rates, and added fees, cash advances are significantly more expensive than standard credit card purchases.
